August is an especially busy time of the year for Momma of the Month Melanie W. Glover. Not only is she getting her kids—15-year-old twins Cameron and Colin and 7-year-old Sloan—ready to go back to school, but the career educator is stepping into a new role at Pinson Valley High School with a new doctor of education degree of her own.
“Before I went back to school, I prayed about it and let Him lead me,” Glover said when asked how she juggled returning to school with family life. “Things worked out so smoothly that I know it was His plan for me. You also need a really strong support system and you need to be fully committed so that you can get it done. I finished my program in exactly three years, which is what they tell you is the most reasonable and doable timetable if you commit to doing what needs to be done.”
Glover is no stranger to commitment. She has been married to her husband, Charlie, for 17 years, and despite their often hectic schedule, she makes sure to let him know she cares.
“I remind him that he is still my true love,” she said of how she makes her marriage a priority. “Small things—a back rub, fixing his plate and taking it to him, calls/texts in the middle of the day. We always remind each other that this is only a phase but that we are blessed to be here together in this hectic life we lead.”
Glover is excited about the future—for her and the city.
“Birmingham proper has so much potential,” she said. “(We) need leaders who can bring businesses in and grow the city. (There’s) no reason for us not to thrive like Atlanta, which is only two hours up the road.”
“I’m completely open to any and all possibilities. Hoping that God will open some doors. I’ll even take a window.”
