Looking for great eats around the Magic City? You don’t want to miss the new season of Dining Out with Comedienne Joy, which premieres on the television channel My 68 on September 10 at 8:30 a.m. Comedienne Joy recently spoke with Magic City Momma about the show.
What can viewers expect from the new season of Dining Out with Comedienne Joy?
This season some celebrity chefs, celebrities and possibly a few fine dining restaurants.
Why did you decide to do the show?
After doing video blogs about food and posting on social media, many of my followers watched and patronized those businesses, and I thought how could I get out my videos to a larger crowd plus make money from my passion. Also I had a dream of being on the Food Network but wasn’t sure how they would find me, so I created my own Food Network to showcase the locals.
What has been the biggest surprise about the show?
How well it took off and viewers gained a trust in my reviews. They wanted to try the eateries themselves.
What has been the funniest thing to happen while recording the show?
I let (football player) Trent Richardson beat me in a food eating contest at Ezell’s Express. I wanted whole catfish, and he had fillets, which meant he wasn’t eating meat off the bone or crunching the tail like me, and he finished first. When I see him again, I’m still asking for a rematch!
How can interested restaurants get on the show?
They can simply call me 205-482-6999 or email [email protected]. I do charge a nominal fee, but I offer a lot, such as a live cooking segment, radio and of course the show. The other benefit is I’m now involved in several food events in the community, and I’m always pitching places I know about for different events.
What other events do you have coming up in the next few months that you would like for readers to know about?
I’m emceeing the Women’s Summit by the Birmgham Business Journal for a second year in September. I’m a food judge at the Cahaba River Fry Down in October, so they can hang out with me., I’m in this year’s Bombshell Calendar for the Southern Museum of Flight. They can get a calendar from me in August as I’m Miss February 2017.
What’s next for Comedienne Joy?
I’m open to God’s plan. I pray daily for unexpected paid opportunities. People can expect more national partnerships like Krystal in the food arena.
