With fall in full swing, there’s lots of stuff to do in the Magic City this weekend for you and your crew or just you and your boo.
Woodlawn
Set right here in Birmingham, Woodlawn tells the true-life story of Tony Nathan (played by newcomer Caleb Castille) who joins the Woodlawn High School football team after the school’s government-mandated desegregation in 1973. Directed by the Erwin Brothers, the faith-based film has an all-star cast and is billed as a story of revival and reconciliation.
Huggy Lowdown
What’s the deal, pickles? Is everything kosher?
Comedian and Tom Joyner Morning Show regular Huggy Lowdown will be appearing at the Stardome Comedy Club October 16-18. Visit stardome.com for more information or to purchase tickets.
Goosebumps
The screen adaptation of the popular Goosebumps book series makes its way to theatres this weekend. Starring actor Jack Black as series author R.L. Stine, the movie, which is rated PG, follows the adventures of Zach Cooper (Dylan Minnette) who is not too happy about moving to a small town—until he meets next-door neighbor Hannah (Odeya Rush) who happens to be Stine’s daughter. Zach accidentally unleases monsters from the Goosebumps stories, and he, Hannah and Stine must work together to get the beasts back in the books.
Boo at the Zoo
Looking to burn a little energy this weekend? Head on over to Boo at the Zoo presented by Wells Fargo. Kids can come dressed in the family-friendly costumes and participate in the Spider Slide, take an Eerie Express Train Ride or show off their skills at the new Skeleton Skate ice rink. Tickets can be purchased online.
Pumpkin Patch
If you’re in the mood for a mini road trip, pack up the kiddos and head to the Great Pumpkin Patch Halloween Festival in Hayden, Alabama. The patch, which is about thirty minutes from Birmingham, runs through November 1. Admission is free, but you must pay for the activities, which include an inflatable park, the Great Pumpkin Patch Train and Petting Zoo. Visit greatpumpkinpatch.com for more information.
