It’s Classic weekend in the Magic City, so activities abound.
Friday, October 30
The Tom Joyner Morning Show
The nationally syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show comes to Birmingham to help kick off the 74th annual Magic City Classic from 5–9 a.m. at the BJCC North Exhibition Hall. Special guests will include DJ CJ “The Sticman,” Howard Hewett, Alvin Garrett, celebrity chef Gina Neely and Just a Few Cats with Logan the Entertainer.
Magic City Music Fest
Fans of nineties music are in for a treat when radio host and Birmingham native Rickey Smiley hosts the Magic City Music Fest at the Legacy Arena at the BJCC. Groups Jodeci, Dru Hill, SWV and Doug E. Fresh will take to the stage. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.
Lavell Crawford
Comedian Lavell Crawford will bring the funny to the Stardome Comedy Club October 30–November 1. In addition to standup comedy, Crawford has appeared on the television shows Breaking Bad and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Tickets can be purchased online.
Omega Psi Phi Classic Party
Featuring DJ Big Sweat, the Alpha Phi chapter of Omega Psi Phi will hold its annual party at the BJCC East Ballroom from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit alphaphiques.com.
Tailgate Sunset Concert and Party
Head on over to Legion Field from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. for a free concert featuring Willie Clayton, Alvin Garrett and DJ CJ Sticman. There will be dance contests, prize giveaways and more.
Saturday, October 31
Coors Light Pre-Game Tailgate Party and Ford Tailgate Takeover
Starting at 10 a.m. outside Legion Field, there will be two free tailgates that offer plenty of giveaways and music, including drum major performances, DJ battles and a concert by EPMD.
Magic City Classic Parade
The parade for the 74th annual Magic City Classic starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday, October 31. If you are unable to make it in person, this year the parade will be aired live on Fox6 and Bounce TV from 8–10 a.m. This year’s parade features celebrity ambassador, Black-ish star Anthony Anderson, as well as high school bands from Birmingham City Schools.
Magic City Classic Football Game
Kickoff for this year’s competition between Alabama State and Alabama A&M is 2:30 p.m. on October 31at Legion Field. Those who purchase tickets to the game will also be able to watch R&B group Jagged Edge at the post-game concert. Visit magiccityclassic.com for more information.
