Make plans to attend the 6th Annual Girls Inc. Cajun Cook-off from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 9 at Railroad Park. This casual, family-friendly event featuring a Cajun cooking competition as well as live zydeco music by the Swamp Poppas. Enjoy taste-testing all of your Cajun favorites including gumbo, jambalaya, red beans and rice and much more. Your vote will help determine the winner of the cooking competition.
There will be fun activities for kids of all ages including a balloon artist, face painting and games. The event also features a silent auction with various items including dinner at top-rated Birmingham restaurants, spa and golf packages, art, hotel stays, kids’ activities, and even more.
All funds generated by the Cajun Cook-off will benefit Girls Inc. programs that inspire Central Alabama girls to be strong, smart, and bold. For more information on Girls Inc., visit the website at www.girlsinccentral-al.org.
Tickets for the Cajun Cook-off can be purchased online at www.bhamcajuncookoff.com. Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for children ages three to ten. Kids under three are free.

Girls Inc. of Central Alabama offers a multitude of services. In the Crestwood Center, they offer after-school, winter break, spring break, and summer programs. Within the Crestwood Center Programs girls from first grade to twelfth grade go through our national Girls Inc. programming in addition to tutoring and free play. They have a Eureka! Teen Achievement Program that is STEM based for rising seventh- and eighth-grade girls; after completing the summer program the girls are able to stay in the year-round program through twelfth grade. There is a Teen Leadership Program for ninth- through twelfth-grade girls that focuses on college and career prep. In addition to in-house programs, Girls Inc. provides outreach services to girls in Jefferson, Shelby, Blount, St. Claire, and Walker County.
