In so many ways, singer Toni Braxton’s music was the soundtrack to my 20s.
Like many fans, I’ve witnessed her highest highs and lowest lows. When I heard Lifetime was doing an authorized biopic, I couldn’t help but get excited. I watch Braxton Family Values, but on the show, we see the grown-up Toni Braxton and her sisters. There is something about getting an insider’s view into Braxton’s meteoric rise to fame that takes me back to the girl I was so long ago.
Toni Braxton: Unbreak My Heart premieres this Saturday at 7 p.m. CST on Lifetime.
Starring newcomer Lex Scott Davis, the movie is executive produced by Braxton, produced by one of my all-time favorite singers Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and directed by Vondie Curtis Hall. It is based on her memoir, Unbreak My Heart. It will follow the singer’s journey from being discovered by Babyface and L.A. Reid to her battles with bankruptcy and lupus. Braxton’s divorce and her son’s autism will also be addressed.
Of course, no telling of Braxton’s life would be complete without including her mother and her sisters.
The film stars Debbi Morgan (Power, All My Children) as Braxton’s mother, Evelyn; Gavin Houston (Guiding Light) as Babyface, Cortney Scott Wright as Traci Braxton, Skye P. Marshall (Public Morals) as Towanda Braxton, LaToya Franklyn (Subways) as Trina Braxton and Tiffany Hines (Devious Maids) as Tamar Braxton.
Stay tuned after the movie at 9 p.m. CST for Beyond The Headlines: Toni Braxton, which will include interviews with Braxton and her family, L.A. Reid, Babyface, record producer David Foster and songwriter Diane Warren.
What do you hope to learn about the singer’s life in Toni Braxton: Unbreak My Heart?
