Are you up for a road trip? Head over to Tuscaloosa this weekend for the grand opening of Hwy 55 Burgers, Shakes and Fries.
Located at 3615 McFarland Boulevard East, Hwy 55, owned by Birmingham resident Derrick Maddox, offers an affordable, family-friendly, all-American dining experience. The menu boasts fresh-never-frozen burgers, cheesesteaks and frozen custards that are made in house daily. In addition, Hwy 55 offers an array of specialty burgers, including shrimp and a pimento cheeseburger; chicken wings and tenders; and other favorites like hot dogs, salads, gravy fries and their award-winning sweet tea.
The grand opening will begin around 11 a.m. and include activities throughout the day. Patrons will be able to participate in the Five Five Challenge, where they are challenged to eat a 55-ounce burger on a bun with at least four trimmings, along with fries and a 24-ounce drink. If it is eaten in 30 minutes or less, it’s free. If it’s not, participants must pay for the meal.
Patrons may also pick up loyalty cards, which can be used during their visits. For each $5 spent, they will receive one point, which can be redeemed for food from the menu after collecting a minimum of three points.
“We are excited to be a part of the Tuscaloosa community,” Maddox said. “We look forward to our patrons making great memories here that they will be talking about for years to come.
“The response from the Tuscaloosa community has been tremendous. We already have numerous repeat customers.”
Founded in Eastern North Carolina in 1991, Hwy 55 reflects founder Kenney Moore’s commitment to authentic hospitality and fresh food. Lunch and dinner is grilled in an open-air kitchen, and patrons are served at their table—with a smile.
