The attention was so unexpected.
I showed up at a recent event at the Alabama Library Association’s author expo in Gadsden, expecting what is pretty much the norm for multi-author events: networking with other authors while deep down hoping someone will buy one of your books.
This time was different though.
When I walked through the door of the Track 210 hall and introduced myself, one of the library workers immediately recognized me and seemed a little in awe. Even though I’ve been a published author for almost ten years, I’m shy by nature, and although flattering, that kind of recognition always throws me. What made it even more interesting is I haven’t released a new book in almost two years. In my mind, I’m fading into obscurity, but I learned from the library worker’s recognition and the steady stream of people buying my books that that clearly isn’t the case.
If that wasn’t enough, my daughter and I ended up making the Fox 6 news. Can we say free publicity?
Honestly, the attention was just the boost I needed. I’m working to release not one but two new books, which I planned to have available for the event. Between working a full-time job and numerous side hustles, not to mention trying to make sure my family is cared for, my publication plan didn’t happen. I went to the event feeling a bit bummed out and scolding myself for not meeting my goal. It was one of those days where the devil was in my ear, and I was wondering if I’m following God’s plan for me.
I took being invited to the conference out of the blue and being welcomed with such warmth and excitement as God’s way of saying to me just keep going. Trust Me.
Maybe your life isn’t going the way you planned, and sometimes you feel discouraged. Don’t overlook the little reminders God places in your path to remind you that He has not forgotten about you. It could be as simple as a phone call or text from a friend saying they miss your encouraging Facebook posts or coming home to find dinner is waiting for you when you have been dreading the thought of cooking all day.
Just keep going and trust Him.
