I love helping others, but I’m not a huge fan of asking for help.
A few months ago, God put it on my spirit to do Magic City Momma, a blog that would help African-American moms, specifically those living in Birmingham, Alabama. I figured all I needed to do was provide great content and people would sign up.
It didn’t happen—at least not the way I envisioned. It finally hit me that I needed to ask for help.
Yesterday, I stepped outside of my comfort zone and asked people to help me spread the word about Magic City Momma. The response was amazing. (Thank you to everyone who helped and liked the page—feel free to continue spreading the word.) It taught me that sometimes by not asking for help, we are blocking not only our blessings but the blessings of the people who are meant to help us. Here are five ways you may be blocking your blessings, or even worse blocking the blessings of others.
- Not accepting help when it’s offered.
- Being afraid to ask for help when you need it.
- Believing you are too busy to help someone who genuinely needs it.
- Thinking asking for help makes you weak.
- Being suspicious when people offer help that they want something in return.
There really are good people in the world who have a genuine desire to help. What are some ways you can allow God to use you and allow yourself to be used by accepting or giving help today?
