Award-winning Christian fiction author Unoma Nwankwor wants readers to know that all things really do work together for the good of those who love the Lord. I recently spoke to her about her latest book, To Live Again.
Tell me about your book, To Live Again.
To Live Again is a tale of two people shackled by the clutches of their past. While the hero, Osaro Ikimi is able to break free from his pain, the heroine, Itohan finds it more of a challenge. In To Live Again, through Osaro’s niece, life these two together. What should be a romance for the books was plagued by Itohan’s unwillingness to let go of her pain. Just when he convinces her to live again, her dreaded past rears its ugly head.
Why did you decide to write it?
The premises for the story actually came to me through the Holy Spirit about four years ago. A lot of us forget to live holding on to scars of the past. Barely existing, confined by the shackles of fear, pride, hurt. I wanted to write about a couple who desperately wanted to break free from those shackles but really didn’t how until they surrendered to the process of healing and trust in God’s sovereignty.
What do you want readers to learn from the story?
A simple lesson that the heroine had to learn. When God closes a door, leave it closed. All things, good, bad and ugly will work together for the good of those who love the Lord.
What do you want readers to learn from your life?
From my life? I guess what I’m still learning: To keep at your dreams no matter the obstacles that come your way. For me, there have been plenty, but I keep moving forward, leaning on the grace and mercy of God.
What advice do you have for readers interested in starting their own publishing company?
Pray. Research and work it. Nothing will ever be perfect, none of the pieces will fit together all at once, but if starting a publishing company or any kind of business is on your heart to start, I’m going say it like Nike: just do it!
What’s next for Unoma Nwankwor?
Presently, I’m working on starting the second season of my podcast Anchor Talk. Anchor Talk is a quick burst of inspiration and empowerment for Christian entrepreneurs who find themselves weary in the wait for the manifestation of the promise. My aim is to provide hope needed to push through the uncertainty of the process.
Do you have anything you would like to add?
