Jack-of-a-thousand trades Princess F. L. Gooden realized the importance of gifts after reading the book that changed her life.
What is the book that changed your life? Brothers of the Knight by Debbie Allen
Tell me about the book: Reverend Knight can’t understand why his 12 sons’ sneakers were torn to threads each and every morning, and the boys wouldn’t say. They knew their all-night dancing wouldn’t fit with their father’s image in the community. A pretty new nanny with a knack for getting to the bottom of household mysteries was hired to crack the case.
Why did it impact you? It made me realize how often we hide our gifts because someone else doesn’t or won’t approve. How often we uncomfortably sneak around doing the things we love to make the people we love happy. I saw myself in the boys, except their night was my life. I would sneak around doing some of the things I loved and some things I just didn’t do at all. I didn’t have a nanny come investigate my whereabouts, but God placed some very special people in my life to call me out.
Is there anything you would like to add? I later found out that Ms. Allen was retelling the classic tale of The Twelve Dancing Princesses, which made it very clear to me (since my name is Princess) that this was more than a great book; it was divine intervention.
