From my family to yours, Happy New Year. What better way to start 2021 than by praying. Please join me in saying a prayer for the New Year.
Lord,
It’s hard to believe that another year has come and gone, and what a year 2020 was. We come thanking you for all that was in 2020. As a result of the pandemic, many of us found ourselves slowing down and spending more time with family than ever before and rethinking what it means to actually live. We found ourselves making history with the election of the first black female vice president.
Last year—or even the last ten—may not have been what we hoped, dreamed or planned, but we thank you in spite of for allowing us to make it through and to experience another year of life. We come asking that you would help us not to dwell on 2020, but to use everything we experienced to propel us into this new year with a new attitude, new enthusiasm, and a new determination to live the life and be the people you want us to be and to do the things you would have us to do.
Be with us every step of the way as we venture into 2021. Give us the desires of our heart, and help those desires to line up with your will. Open doors for us that no man can open and close doors that no man can close. We pray your blessings over our families, our friends, our homes, our jobs and our lives. Cover every facet of our lives and the lives of those we love this year and always.
We ask your blessings for those who suffered the loss of a loved one, a friendship or relationship, job or anything they held dear last year. Give them whatever they need in this new year, and comfort them in a way only you can.
Lord, we thank you for the promise of a new year, for this opportunity to have a new beginning. We thank you for the knowledge we don’t have to wait until the calendar reads January 1 for us to start over. Every day we can have a new beginning in you. We thank you this day for your new mercies, which are fresh every morning, and ask that you help us to experience the joy that can only be found in you on this day and in all the days to come. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
