On the Set summer film camp will hold registration and auditions for 2017 on June 24 at the Sheraton Civic Center Medical Forum Bldg. RM D from 9 am to 1 pm.
“On The Set Summer Film Camp is the only one of its kind,” said On The Set founder and executive director David Tucker Jr. “Meaning that this is the only film camp that’s utilizing live on-location sets with real Hollywood actors. The camp was founded in 2008. Any child between the ages of 10–18 years of age is eligible to audition or interview for a summer position. The campers learn cinematography, audio operation, lights, directing, producing as well as acting. The knowledge they pick up from our celebrity mentors influence is priceless.”
This is the tenth year for the camp, which will be held July 12 through 22. In past years, there has been a celebrity on set to mentor attendees, including Dr. Tonea Stewart, Darrin Henson, Malik Yoba, Kadeem Hardison, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Brian White, Carl Payne and Bre’ly Evans.
Auditions and interviews will not last longer than 15 minutes. Actors must come prepared to do a two- to three-minute monologue or performance. Behind the scene candidates (i.e., directors, producers, and cinematographers will be interviewed).
Attendees are given full responsibility of each element of film production, while being supervised by a professional and having the opportunity to experience meaningful development in a safe and accepting environment.
Tucker hopes to see the camp grow in the coming years.
“The film camp wants to continue to grow as do I. We have plans to attract youth from other cities and possibly set up shop in more locations outside of Birmingham,” he said.
