Author and marketing strategist Nigeria Lockley knows a thing or two about passion, and she wants to help other creatives pursue theirs. I recently spoke with her about Pursuing Your Passion in a Godly Fashion: Prayers for Creative Christians and Entrepreneurs.
Tell me about your book, Pursuing Your Passion in a Godly Fashion: Prayers for Creative Christians and Entrepreneurs.
Pursuing Your Passion in a Godly Fashion covers 15 different issues or area that any faith-based business owner or creative will come up against and how to use prayer as a strategy to shape their business and sharpen their resolve. The structure for each prayer is modeled after Nehemiah’s prayer in the first book of Nehemiah. He was a passionate who set out to do a task that was seemingly impossible, however, he started with a prayer first that gave him strength, strategy, and divine wisdom to get the job done no matter what.
Why did you decide to write it?
It was in my heart to write it after the release of my first book, Born at Dawn. I thought I was going to write about writing and achieving your dreams, but nothing came together until I began fasting, and in the midst of me working on another project, God gave me the words for Pursuing Your Passion in a Godly Fashion.
What do you want readers to learn from the book?
That as Christians in the marketplace doing business or working on our passion projects we don’t conduct business the same way everyone else does. We will face the same obstacles, but with insight from God and the Bible we have supernatural tactics that we can and should be relying on to create the shifts we want to see.
What do you want readers to learn from your life?
That this is all a process, and I have not got it all figured out. What looks like wisdom and understanding is the result of glory of God.
What advice do you have for readers interested in starting their own business?
Start it. Don’t let small things cloud your vision and prevent you from operating. We have too much at our disposal today to still be so limited
What’s next for Nigeria Lockley?
Let’s see, I just jumped into the ecommerce pool and opened a digital store. In addition to coaching authors and creative business owners, I’m working on releasing a couple of books this year.
