Actress, author and motivational speaker Morgan McCoy who plays Carole in Deadly Sexy stops by to chat about the film.
Editor’s Note:
On Saturday, November, 17, 2018, fans will get the first taste of the highly anticipated romantic thriller Deadly Sexy. The movie, based on the book by writing powerhouse Beverly Jenkins, is produced by Siri Austin Entertainment; executive produced by Jenkins: and is written, directed, and executive produced by Iris Bolling.
Tell me about your movie, Deadly Sexy.
Deadly Sexy will be released Nov. 17. This movie is about two power players working on different sides, but their magnetic attraction for one another keeps pulling them together. In the course of this romance, there are some dangerous twists and turns that cause them to not only play together, but work together to survive.
Why did you decide to be a part of it?
Iris Bolling.
Iris is one of the most talented people I know! She is such an inspiration and her tribe is also, so anytime I have an opportunity to work with her and her team then I’m there. Being on Iris’ set is like being with family, and I couldn’t pass on an opportunity to reunite with family.
What can viewers expect when they watch the movie?
Suspense, love, laughter, and an overall good time. Beverly Jenkins’ story alone will have you on the edge of your seat, and the cast did an impeccable job of capturing the characters written in her book and brought them to life. You can expect some deadly scenes and definitely some sexy ones.
What was the hardest part of the filming process?
I so enjoyed the time I had on set, and can’t think of any hard parts at the moment.
What was the funniest moment during filming?
Oh my goodness, too many to choose! The set was full of laughter because we definitely have a lot of comedians in the cast and crew. What’s awesome is that we were able to laugh together and put in work together. Just as we laughed hard, we worked even harder to make the day and see the project through.
What advice do you have for others interested in filming a movie, whether it’s behind or in front of the camera?
Study, prepare, and never give up. In anything you want to do, you should study those who have done it successfully before you. Study can take the form of interviewing people, observing them, watching videos, reading, taking classes, etc. After you soak the knowledge up, begin to prepare to do it yourself. Someone told me that luck is opportunity meeting preparation, which I definitely believe is true. Lastly, if you really want to do this filmmaking thing, don’t give up. This industry is challenging, but so is life. Anything worth having is worth fighting for, so keep pushing and pursuing until you’ve done what you set out to do.
What’s the biggest lesson you learned being a part of Deadly Sexy?
Make the most of every moment. I say this because I was in a pretty bad car accident on one of my days off and couldn’t return to set as a result of my injuries. My last day of shooting for Deadly Sexy could have been my last scenes for life. I thank the Lord that it wasn’t. However, it could have been, which brings me back to my first sentence. If we treat every day like it’s our last we will make the most of every moment presented to us in that day. We should give it our all in our careers, interactions with friends and even strangers, and share those kind words right now because you don’t know what tomorrow will look like for you or anyone else.
What’s next for you?
I’m in a new movie project which I’m super excited about! I can’t share the details just yet due to the request of the production company, but I start shooting very soon 🙂 Also, I am still touring my original one-woman shows across the country. With my shows, Evolution of a Black Girl: From the Slave House to the White House, She’s Got Issues, and Care For Me: The Cry of the Fatherless, I have the privilege of sharing authentic stories that bring attention to racial reconciliation, history appreciation, domestic violence awareness, sexual assault prevention, breast cancer, trauma informed care, adoption opportunities, and so much more! Also, I am a commissioned artist, and recently, I’ve been commissioned to write pieces on HIV, Hepatitis C, and diabetes to bring awareness, education, and encouragement through the art of storytelling.
Do you have anything you would like to add?
A big thank you to Ms. Beverly Jenkins and to Iris Bolling for allowing me the opportunity to work on this project. It was truly an honor! Also, thank you to the cast and crew for all you did behind the scenes to make sure the scenes turned out well. You all are amazing, and it was a privilege to work with each and every one of you.
