Dr. Mildred D. Watson invites you to join her as she launches 1 Love Ministries and wraps up her Seven Sundays of Prayer and Praise to help break the cycle of abuse. I recently spoke with Watson about her efforts.
Tell me about Hope For My Sistas and 1 Love Ministries.
1 Love Ministries International is a new worship center plant. I am presently located inside the Courtyard Marriott at 1824 Hwy 31 Hoover, Alabama. I have been in the city of Birmingham for two years. I have been an ordained, licensed preacher-teacher for over 20 years.
We seek to offer hope through serving love as our main course. We seek to embrace, encourage and to empower others who have gifts that they desire to perfect and to use in God’s kingdom-building process to join us.
Tell me about your prayer breakfast.
The Seven Sundays of Prayer and Praise is being held at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel, Conference room B.
On Sunday starting January 15 through February 26 at 9 a.m., we will have a guest speaker to address these issues, in light of their experience or as a professional.
There is no cost for the light continental breakfast. RSVP is required if one desires a full breakfast. That cost is $12.
We have been meeting at the Courtyard Marriott since November. This is the location for the launch of 1 Love Ministries. Our plan is to meet here until we outgrow this space. With God’s guidance and blessings, we will build or buy a facility in the near future.
Why did you decide to host it?
I have been advocating for women for years. Abuse and violence is getting worse, not better. There is not enough open, honest dialogue about these real issues that are destroying our families. The church is too silent.
What can attendees expect when they attend?
Attendees can expect to be welcomed into a relaxed, nonjudgmental space of praise music along with prayer for us collectively and individually.
Also, attendees can expect a timely, realistic, relevant message of hope from someone who has overcome abuse and/or violence. On two Sundays in February, Dr. Farinna Willis MD., OBGYN will speak to us from the medical perspective. She will address STDs, women’s health, and various challenges abused women have to deal with.
One of the directors from Impact Family Counseling and other professionals will be available to offer assistance to women who may need it. Attendees can expect some personal one-on-one time after the gathering. Attendees can expect a worship experience in a nontraditional kind of way, as we speak truth concerning abuse and violence.
Why did you decide to focus on abuse, addiction, depression, domestic violence and sexual abuse?
The abuse, addiction, depression, domestic violence and sexual abuse are the demons, the evil spirits, that are running rampant in or family, in our community, in our place of work, in our schools and yes in our churches; these are metaphorically the elephant in every room that is being overlooked or whispered about, but are not being addressed authentically.
Sexual abuse and domestic violence are epidemics. There is a web of issues so interwoven, it is usually difficult to pinpoint the dominant one. Every issue mentioned is not a stand-alone. This is why in my experience, each one has to be addressed.
What’s next for you and your business?
As a therapist, my desire is to continue to facilitate workshops for singles and couples to promote healthy relationships.
I plan to promote Hope For My Sistas, I plan to write more books, I plan to get at least a 30-minute radio talk show (Love Talks), I plan to travel within and outside of these United States sharing therapeutic truth as well as sharing the gospel, I plan to be a lender and not a borrower, through multiple streams of income.
