Editor, consultant and literary agent Latoya C. Smith has read a lot of books during her career, but there is one that changed her life.
What is the book that changed your life?
Wow, I’ve read a lot of books in my life that have impacted me in different ways. However, the first book that I enjoyed so much that I read it three times was Cheaters by Eric Jerome Dickey.
Tell me about the book.
From Amazon:
The sensational new novel from the hottest voice in African-American fiction. With his third book, Milk in My Coffee, Eric Jerome Dickey climbed the national charts, including the New York Times list, confirming the tremendous promise of his first two bestsellers Sister, Sister and Friends and Lovers. Cheaters is Dickey’s sexy, sassy, and sharp-tongued new novel. Taking a dip into the Los Angeles singles scene, Dickey treats us to a totally uncensored, uninhibited, and outrageously entertaining adventure in seduction, betrayal, heartbreak, revenge, and oh-so-sweet true love. Laced with humor, filled with insight, and brimming with complex, honest emotions, Cheaters is Eric Jerome Dickey’s most ambitious and irresistible novel yet.
Why did it impact you?
That was the first romantic fiction book that I read with people of color and I wanted more! Who would have thought I would later become an editor, much less a romance editor. Since then, I have worked on a variety of fiction and non-fiction titles, but romance is still my favorite subgenre.
