With two toddlers, nonprofit executive Katrina Watson has her hands full, but I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t have it any other way. She took time out of her business schedule to visit with me today.
Tell me about yourself.
I am Birmingham born and Roswell raised. I am passionate about helping people and have worked in the nonprofit sector for more than a decade. I am grateful to celebrate nine years of marriage to an incredible man of God who is intentional about helping me become the woman God created me to be. We have two delightful toddlers who amaze us each day.
What do you want your children to learn from your life?
I want my children to have an unshakeable belief in Christ and to know full well that they are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139).
What are the best and worst things about living in Birmingham?
The people are the best part of Birmingham. The worst part is that many people and communities do not have access to the resources they need to succeed.
What is your proudest mom moment?
My proudest mom moment is watching our three-year-old son protect his younger sister. Our daughter throws her entire body—including her head—on the floor when she is upset. When this is about to happen, our son stands behind her to keep her head from hitting a hard surface.
What is your proudest wife moment?
Believing in hubby’s dreams and encouraging him to follow the calling God has placed on his life. I’m also proud of the time(s) I’ve made delicious steak and red velvet cake for him.
What advice do you have for women juggling raising kids with building a career?
Be intentional about spending time with children. Set boundaries for the hours you will work so that you can devote uninterrupted time with your children. If you need to bring work home, let that be an exception and not the norm. Let your children type (some) on your computer and talk to them about what you are doing and why you are doing it. Encourage their questions and fully engage with them. Value your efforts and value your children. Be kind to yourself and remember that your children believe you are the most amazing person.

I hope to continue empowering people and creating opportunities for people to reach their potential.
