Destiny Adams is on a mission to inspire and empower girls around the world and get them excited about computer science and computer programming.
Tell me about yourself.
I am Destiny Simone Adams, founder of Destiny Adams International. Destiny Adams International was founded in November 2017, and our mission is to raise awareness to the opportunities in computer science and computer programming; equipping youth with coding skills as a platform to their trajectory as future leaders in technology. We offer numerous amounts of services such as robotics, introductory coding classes, virtual learning and public speaking engagements.
Why did you decide to start it?
I decided to start my business because I noticed that there was a wide gender gap between men and women that pursue careers in STEM and especially in the computer science field.
What can patrons expect when they work with you?
My participants can expect to be in a fun and supportive learning environment.
What advice do you have for girls interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and STREAM (science, technology, engineering, math, reading and writing)?
My advice to girls interested in STEM/STREAM would be to be openminded and to stay focused on your end goal. It never hurts to try new things because it helps you explore things, you never thought you’d enjoy doing. Once you’ve figured out what it is that you want to do in life, stick with it and don’t give up, no matter how challenging it gets.
What advice do you have for parents to help their daughters foster a love of STEM and STREAM?
My advice to parents would be to listen to their children when they are expressing their passions and what it is that makes them happy. It will help when determining what programs, organizations and clubs they should be involved in to further their interests.
You recently contributed to a book. Tell me about that and your upcoming book.
I contributed to a book called Embracing Stem Smarts by Alexis Scott, and the purpose of this book is to enlighten, inspire, educate, influence, equip and encourage young women to the possibilities of a STEM career. In addition, my upcoming book is a guide for female entrepreneurs and girls who have a passion for STEM. I will provide tips that will help them throughout their journey, as well as sharing some of my most memorable personal stories.
What’s next for Destiny Adams?
Graduation! I am extremely excited and looking forward to graduation, considering that I will be an early 2019 graduate. I will major in computer science and minoring in international business.
Do you have anything you would like to add?
I recently launched a nonprofit ,Destiny Adams Foundation, which focuses on providing girls with the tools needed for success.
