In his latest book, author Cedric L. Threatt is looking to shine a spotlight on bullying.
Tell me about your latest book, The Bully Proof Vest.
My latest book is called The Bully Proof Vest. It’s a play on words from the “bullet proof vest” that police officers wear. I got the idea when I thought about how all superheroes have something they either use or wear that makes them feel more powerful and confident. Police officers are real-life superheroes, and when they put on their bullet proof vest, nothing can harm them.
Why did you decide to write it?
I decided to write it because bullying is and has become such a serious problem in our society. I feel like all of us can play a part in eradicating it, and this is my small way of doing mine.
What do you want readers to learn from the story?
I want readers (especially children who have been or are being bullied) to know that they are special, valuable and that they can be confident.
If you could pick another profession, what would it be and why?
If I could pick another profession I think I’d like to be either a teacher, a sports journalist, or work in some type of advertising. A teacher because I can think of no better way to inspire our youth and influence society, a sports journalist because I think it would be cool to sit around and talk about games, give my opinion and get paid for it, and in advertising because I love coming up with creative slogans and jingles.
What’s the best part of being an author?
The best part about being an author to me is the satisfaction I get whenever someone tells me how much they love and appreciate something God has given me (a la one of my books). Also, I think it’s the perfect way to leave a legacy, something that will be here long after I’m gone.
What’s the worst part of being an author?
I really can’t think of a worst part about being an author. There are some things that are not as pleasant as others, like rejection notices and trying to fight through writer’s block, but even those aren’t really so bad. At least not to me.
What’s next for Cedric L. Threatt?
What’s next for me is I’m currently working on two more children’s books that should be available by the end of the year. I’m also in the process of scheduling more speaking engagements at educational conferences and other events.
Do you have anything you would like to add?
The only thing I’d like to add is that if there is someone out there who may be considering a career as an author or speaker, if it’s something you truly love and it’s your passion, I say…go for it!
