Author, poet and public speaker Cedric L. Threatt uses his latest book to help kids learn about the importance of good nutrition. I recently spoke with him about UP & Adam the Fitness Tandem.
Tell me about your latest book.
My latest book is called UP & Adam the Fitness Tandem. It’s about two young boys, one named Ulysses Parker (UP), and the other one named Adam Calloway. Together they teach kids about the importance of good health, nutrition and exercise.
Why did you decide to write it?
I decided to write this book after seeing so many children struggle with their weight. I also noticed that children don’t get outside and play as much as they used to. It seems like most of their time is spent playing video games on their TV, tablet or laptop.
What do you want readers to learn from the story?
I want readers to learn that there are some healthy alternatives to junk food and that they can do or be anything they want to be (one of the characters in the book wants to play centerfield but he can’t because he’s overweight).
What do you want readers to learn from your life?
I want readers to learn that you may be down but you’re never out (I was laid off in 2009), and I want them to know that it is possible to pursue their passion.
Who is your favorite author and why?
My favorite author is Myles Munroe because he always talked about one’s purpose.
What’s next for Cedric L. Threatt?
Next for me is to continue to write quality books for all ages and to continue my dream of being a public speaker traveling all over the world inspiring others.
Do you have anything you would like to add?
I really don’t have anything to add except I’d just like to reiterate the fact that all things are possible if you believe, so if you have something that you believe in and are passionate about, you should pursue it with your whole heart.
