Christian fiction author Cecelia Dowdy serves up another sweet treat in her Bakery Romance Series.
“Sweet Dreams is about Misty, a single mom. A new Christian, she is trying to distance herself and her two-year-old daughter from her dysfunctional family. She relocates to Miami and is torn when she falls for handsome Sterling Richards. Sterling Richards is a grieving baker dealing with his own family struggles. Misty has a deep secret about her past. She dreads how Sterling will react once he discovers her past discretions.”
The bakery theme is one that is near and dear to Dowdy’s heart.
“I wrote The Bakery Romance Series because I love baking. I’ve often fantasized about owning my own bakery. These fantasies have led me to write this series.”
In addition to romance, Dowdy has gained a following with her fan fiction, where she focuses on the movie, Titanic.
“Fan fiction is when you take a popular story, movie, TV series, etc. and write a story based upon those characters. I was unaware of fan fiction until my sister introduced me to it. The reason why I wrote my Titanic fan fiction is because Titanic is my all-time favorite movie. The only thing I didn’t like about the movie was that Jack Dawson died at the end. I never got over that! I always felt that Jack and Rose had a strong romance that was never completed, so, in my version, Jack lives, and both Jack and Rose move to New York. After a series of mishaps, they both find Christ and get married.”
Dowdy’s fan fiction and fiction has impacted readers in surprising ways.
“I was surprised when I had a number of readers who were not Christian—and readers who were not familiar with Christian fiction—to read my books and enjoy them. I actually had a recent Amazon reviewer state that she groaned when she read the first Christian reference in my book. But as she continued reading, she found that it was touching the way my characters looked to God for answers to their problems. She went on to state that she usually read steamy, sexual romances. She saw that my characters were trying to find their own way, she could relate to that since she was finding her own way as well.”
Dowdy is also continuing to find her way and to make her presence known in the publishing industry.
“I’m working on book four for The Bakery Romance Series. It’s called Sugar and Spice, and it will soon be available for pre-order on Amazon. Sugar and Spice will be a Christmas novella. The story will focus on Sheila, a secondary character in Shades of Chocolate (Book 2 of The Bakery Romance Series).”
