Looking to add a little spice to the holidays? I recently spoke with author Angie Daniels about Surrender, the latest book in her Seduced by Submission series.
Tell me about your latest book, Surrender.
My latest book, Surrender, is the fourth installment of Seduced into Submission (Curious, Serve, Obey are the others). An interracial erotic romance series scheduled to release on Christmas Day.
Peyton Powell’s curiosity has led her into a wild affair with a sexy, very dominant, business mogul, who has every intention of teaching the lonely housewife the meaning of serve and obey. Peyton finds herself craving her boss’s attention and is hopeful she can break through his cool, arrogant exterior…but her husband has other plans.
My beta readers just finished reviewing the draft, and the consensus is “your readers are going to strangle you!” Sorry, readers! I really was hoping to end the saga with book four, but the characters just wouldn’t let me say good-bye. What can I say? I love twists and drama. I also want these characters to have a chance to truly fall in love without trying to condense the buildup.
Why did you decide to write it?
I’m not sure why I decided to write this book, but I guess that would be the same answer you would get if you asked me about any of my other novels. Stories speak to me. I have very little control, which is why it took almost two years to write Surrender. And despite all the pissed-off emails I received from readers demanding that I end the series, I just couldn’t deliver. This might sound cray-cray but my characters were silent. Every time I sat down in front of the computer, I got nothing. Now Creed and Peyton are talking to me so much, I’m currently working on book five, which will be released in June. And yes, I’m going to release in paperback. However, due to the size of the series, it’s going to be released in two installments.
What do you want readers to learn from this story?
This book is very erotic, but it’s also about taking control of your own life, throwing caution in the wind, and living a bit reckless. LOL Like me! It’s also about following your heart and putting your needs in front of others. However, with every decision, there are consequences, and this book has plenty.
If you could pick another profession, what would it be and why?
I don’t know if there is anything I’d rather do than what I am doing. I would love to be able to go back to writing full time and give up my day job, but maybe in another year. What I’d love to do in my next life is start my own publishing house. I’ve been in this industry long enough that I understand the business aspect and how easy it is to get screwed. I want to offer a platform for new writers. I just need to free up my schedule if I’m ever going to make that dream happen. As I always say, Dream! Believe! Achieve!
What’s the best part of being a writer?
The best part of being a writer is being creative. I love getting lost in my stories and creating characters that readers can fall in love with. I’m always amazed how typing just one word after another evolves into an entire book. I love it!
What’s the worst part of being an author?
I think the worst part of being an indie author is marketing, especially social media. It takes up so much time. Also, there is the hunt to find talented people to do editing, designing and all the promotion required. I’d rather just write my books.
What’s next for Angie Daniels?
This year I plan on releasing the third book of my Campbell Family series and the last installment to Seduced in Submission, along with a repackaged romantic suspense. With school and a full-time job, I’ve learned not to promise more than I feel confident I can deliver. However, I hope to have a few surprises this year.
