We’ve been doing this COVID thing for well over a year, and although we see light at the end of the tunnel thanks to vaccines, there is still a lot going on. I still can’t get on social media these days without seeing news articles with death counts, not to mention posts about someone being hospitalized or passing away thanks to COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus. There has been too many mass shootings to count, not to mention all the trauma from weekly headlines by black people being killed at the hands of cops. Many school doors are still shut, lots of people are still working from home or not working at all, and many people are wondering how they are going to pay their bills or put food on the table. If you’re anything like me, it’s easy to start thinking about everything that’s going on in our world and to just feel…overwhelmed.
Here are a few scriptures I’ve found that help me.
Ephesians 6:10
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his great power.
Matthew 19:26
But Jesus beheld [them], and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
2 Timothy 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Psalm 34:17
When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears, and rescues them from all their troubles.
1 Peter 5:7
Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.
Philippians 4:8
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Isaiah 40:31 (ESV)
But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
Psalm 23: 4
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
Psalm 27: 1
The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?
Jeremiah 17: 7–8
But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
