“Chandra Sparks Splond was the guest speaker at the 2017 Alabama’s Letters About Literature award ceremony. Students from grades 4-12, their parents and family members, and teachers were spellbound by Splond’s heartfelt and motivating presentation. The students listened intensely to her soft, warm, melodic voice giving insightful words of encouragement. We are grateful to Splond for sharing her story and dreams of becoming a writer and hope to work with her again to continue to promote reading and writing in our state.”

“The Gems chose to read The Promise for their book club. As a culminating event, we decided to invite Mrs. Splond to speak as an author and as a motivational speaker. By far, she has been one of our most memorable guests. She gets it!”
—Delta GEMS (Meridian, MS)
“Chandra Sparks Splond captured the hearts and minds of our young ladies with her book, The Promise, a story that is all too real and relative to today’s youth.”
—Stephanie Wright, Delta Gems Coordinator (Meridian, MS)
“We enjoyed your visit immensely. My book club members, especially Myeshia were really taken with you. Like you stated, you are like a celebrity to them since you are published author. I will gladly forward your name and information to other librarians. I appreciate all that you are doing for children. Your book and visit was the perfect start to our program. Thanks for all you do.”

“Your visit to Erwin Intermediate School has ignited the imagination of our students! You made herself at home at EIS and our students were automatically captivated. We have had author visits in the past but your visit was definitely special. You related to our students and spoke directly to them in an engaging manner. Thanks so much for sharing how you dreamed of becoming a writer as a child and for explaining the importance of being able to identify with the characters and authors of the books you write. If our students have never valued ‘seeing characters that look like them’ before meeting you, they certainly value it now! I appreciate how patient you were in answering all of their questions and including details so that everyone understood. You have been a blessing to so many of our Writing Club members who are aspiring writers. Your dream of becoming a writing will inspire our students to continue to pursue their dreams as well. Please know that you are always welcome at EIS. May God continue to bless you in all that you do!”
—Marshaye Lynn, Fifth Grade Reading Teacher & Writing Club Sponsor, Erwin Intermediate School
“Our students were very excited to participate in Chandra Sparks Splond’s writing workshop. The entire workshop was engaging, ‘hands-on’, and very interactive. As a literacy specialist, it was wonderful to see her tap into the various learning styles of our students all the while maintaining their interest for 50 minutes. During the workshop, students created character selfies from their own independent reading novels, their self-created characters, or used a character from an excerpt Mrs. Splond provided as a model. Throughout the workshop, she gave students feedback on their drafts and many of our students were eager to continue developing their characters beyond the workshop. She provided our students the opportunity to expand on their creativity. She has so much to offer students in the middle grades and in high school. We look forward to working with her again.”

“We were very pleased with Chandra Sparks Splond’s visit to Berry Middle School. Her presentation was warm, welcoming, interesting and insightful for our aspiring authors. Chandra’s writing workshop was interesting to our students, and she was very approachable with questions. The activity she did with our students was very appropriate and helped the kids relate to all kinds of literature, not only her books. The pace of the activity was appropriate for middle-schoolers and included elements of read-aloud, individual/small group activity, a time for sharing and then closed with a brief Q&A session. We would love to have a follow-up visit with Mrs. Splond in the future, and we look forward to the release of more of her books.”
