Chandra Sparks Splond would love to visit your school or group!

School visits are most successful when students have read Chandra Sparks Splond’s books beforehand. . Teachers and librarians are encouraged to make copies of Mrs. Splond’s books available to students in advance of any school visit. All of Mrs. Splond’s books may be purchased on Amazon. She keeps limited quantities on hand she can bring with her.

Mrs. Splond’s assembly presentation is titled “The Path to Publishing.” It includes information for students on writing as a career and personal stories about her journey to publication. She is available for one school assembly (one hour) and one writing workshop (one hour) per day or the equivalent (for example, four 30-minute sessions). Her writing workshops can be tailored to meet the school’s request. She also offers Q&A sessions so students can ask questions. Mrs. Splond would love to have a special lunch with students who have read her book(s), or do an interview with your school or community newspaper. She is also happy to participate in book signings, casual breakfast or lunch get-togethers at no additional charge.

Author’s Honorarium

• In-state: $1,000 per day plus mileage calculated at the IRS standard rate (57.5 cents per mile as of 2020). If the driving distance is over two hours, overnight lodging may be required.
• Out-of-state: $1,500 per day plus travel expenses (flight and lodging)

Discounts
In an effort to reach as many children as possible, Mrs. Splond offers two fee-waived school visits per school year. For Birmingham area schools, Mrs. Splond offers a 50% discount for schools that schedule at least six months in advance. Please email events@chandrasparkssplond.com  for more information.

Virtual Visits
Mrs. Splond is available for free virtual visits, via Zoom*. This is a 30-minute program where teachers and students prepare questions ahead of time for Mrs. Splond to answer. This is also great for book clubs! Mrs. Splond also offers instructional virtual visits at a minimal charge for schools unable to fund traditional school visits. These can be tailored to fit your needs: writing workshops (poetry or fiction) and more. Please email her to discuss possibilities.
